Thank you Gianna!!

Milk - experiments and tasty treats

17/3/2020

ACS was donated some extra milk and in Room 1 we were able to do a special science experiment (talking about germs and washing our hands) and then later make a tasty treat.

Each child started with some milk in a bowl, we added some pepper, talking about how the pepper represents germs (after spending some time talking about what germs are). Then we put a finger into the pepper water and NOTHING happened! But then the children put soap on their finger and again put their finger in the milk. The pepper ran away from the soap. This was a great chance to have discussions about how we wash how hands, for how long, and using soap.

Next after all washing their hands the children got to mix together their own hot chocolate and milk and we warmed them up in the microwave! A tasty start to our afternoon!!

Memory Verses and Butterflies!

Psalm 145:9

Psalm 105:4

Our second butterfly hatched on Thursday after school - Mrs Coe arrived to school to an empty cacoon not knowing when it had hatched or where it had gone. However once the bell rang we soon found it - sitting on the wall next to the mat! It then went on to have an adventure climbing up the beanstalk.

Welcome to Room 1 Evie! We are very happy to have you join our classroom.

Today the first of the cacoons the Archie bought in for news a few weeks ago hatched during devotions. It dried out it's wings during the day and began to fly around the classroom this afternoon. We let it go outside at the end of the day.

Devotions

To start this term we are learning 'Who is God?' and 'Who is Jesus?' Last week we looked at God as King and this week continued out learning talking about God being caring. We talked about shepherds and how they look after sheep - and in the bible it talks about how God are the shepherd andwe are his sheep (Psalm 95:7). We learnt some fun songs this week and also are continuing to learn the days of creation from last week.vHere are the songs from this and last week:
We are also learning a song called
If God is...
(sung to the tune of If you're happy and you know it)
If God is the King make a crown
If God is the King make a crown
If God is the King and you want us all to know it
If God is the King make a crown

-This week we added the verse:
If God cares for you give a hug!

Letter and sounds of the Week:

This week we started our class 'letter of the week'. This letter will be referred to throughout the week during writing, reading, poetry, news and wherever else it fits into our day!
For news this week we had people sharing about areoplanes, apes, animals and April! We also came up with an AMAZING collection of words beginning with the letter a in our alphabet book.
Phonics Sounds of the week:

This week room 1 has had lots of fun with developmental, patterns, and watching our beans begin to grow. Here are a selection of photos from through the week.

On Friday we used washout photos to help us create self portraits using crayons. Our goal was to select the best colours to match our photo. Can you work out who is who?

We talked about the best order to do our pictures in, picking colours that were the closest to our hair and skin colours and carefully looking at the details on the picture we needed to colour. Room 1 did really well!!

This year at ACS our concept is Discovery.
hroughout the year we will have a variety of topics we will learn and discover about. To start off the year we are learning about growing our own beans. We read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk as an introduction to the topic. We talked about how God created plants and seeds and how we are called to look after the things in nature. Over the next few weeks we will get to watch our beans begin to sprout and grow. As we observe we will talk about the things living things need, how we can look after these plants and others, and will then plant one of these beans in the classroom and the others will come home for you to plant at home.
