In Sleepy Sloth's Writing Book

Sleepy sloth got his cars out to play with when he woke up this morning. So when it came to writing time he chose to write a sentence about what he had done.

When writing at home your child may choose to write about something you've done at home, something they like, a video clip they've watched or story they've read. Ask them to tell you the sentence they want to write (and even plan out the words on their fingers) to help them remember before they get started.

Different children will be at different stages in their writing ability. For some children it will be mark making, copying some letter and then telling you a story of what it means. Others will be writing one sound at the start of each word that they want to write. Some will be using their word card and spelling knowledge to write even more into their sentence. Whichever stage your child is at, encourage them and support them where they ask for help. This doesn't mean telling them all the answers but helping them to work out the next sound or reminding them the next word they want to write.
