When practicing and learning phonics at home focus on just one new sound a day. Get the child to say "My name is … (letter name), my sound is … (letter sound)" and ask them throughout the day, "What sound does the letter … make?" Together come up with words that start with that sound. In class we write up a list and see how many we can come up with. Show your child how to correctly write that letter and let them practice on some paper. An extra follow up activity you could try is to make a collage (by cut and pasting picture from the newspaper or magazines) or drawing pictures that start with that sound.
