I hope your week 1 learning went well at home. I loved seeing your writing and news! Here are this week's learning at home ideas. Remember there are lots more ideas on the At Home Learning page.

Devotions

The Beginning (Genesis 1:1-5, 14-18)
Big Question - Who made the World?
This Week - God made the Sun, Moon and Stars
MV - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 - see if your child can make up some actions to go with the verse. Send in a video if you like, and I can add for the other children to see.
Object Lesson - Take some time one evening to look outside with your child at the stars and moon. Ask them to see if they can count all the starts. Comment on how cool the night-time is. Go outside during the day and feel the warmth of the sun and look at the shadow that it makes on the group. Talk about what the sun does, for example, it provides light and heat and makes plants grow. Thank God for the day and the night, the sun, moon and stars.
Crafts/activities: Using whatever craft materials you have at home make a starry mobile that can hang somewhere in your house as a reminder this week.
Game: Sun, moon and stars - play like musical statues, but instead of freezing when the music stops call out 'sun' (drop to the floor in a ball), 'moon' (bend with arms stretched like a crescent moon) or 'stars' (stand with feet apart and arms stretched like doing a star jump).
Beginners Bible Story - focusing on the part of the story where God created the sun, moon and stars.
Song: In the Beginning
See if your child remembers the actions from last term - if not, make up new ones together!

Maths

Here are 4 days of Maths activities. Remember you also have hard copy worksheets you can use and to start off with Mad Math Minute and number wiritng pracitce.

1. Sorting

*sorting rings - draw two rings with chalk outside or on a big piece of paper like this
Picture
*using different items you have around the house sort the objects into the rings, thinking of two differences you can see and the overlap in the middle for the items that both things. Talk about where something would go if it doesn't make sense/fit in each ring (outside the circle).
Here are some different things you could try if you have them, otherwise anything you can find that you think will work!
-leaves from the garden
-lego or blocks
-stationary
-books
-fruit
*you could choose to do some follow up odd one out worksheets (like last week)

2. Speckled Frogs Subtraction

*if you've got a printer at home, print the file below or draw and cut out your own frogs to use.
Ten Little Speckled Frogs
File Size: 307 kb
File Type: pdf
Download File

*place ten frogs on a 'log' in a Numicon pattern shape
Picture
*Remove one frog each verse of the song and see if your child can predict how many frogs will be left each time.*Sing/play the speckled frog song
*practice writing take away / subtraction number sentences following the speckled frog song. Colour the frogs being taken away and fill the blanks on the number sentence

3. Taking away with Numicon Shapes

*using buttons, toy cars, lego, (any small toys you have at home will work) tell a take away story such as "seven cars were in the car park, then three drove away". Children can use the toys to solve the problem. Encourage them to put the toys into the shape of a Numicon shape and then take away the other.
*Continue by giving other problems.
* Extend this by also using laminated Numicon shapes instead of the toys, start with the first number eg 7 and to take away a number eg 5 put it on top of the first number to see what is left.
*Practice writing number sentence problems (your child may or may not need to continue using the toys or Numicon shapes to help them).

4. Telling Subtracting Stories

*using picture books or pictures of animals or the internet. Tell a subtracting story from what you can see. Eg
Picture
"there are 6 geese and 2 flew away how many are left?" Let your child use small toys or laminated Numicon shapes if they need them.
*Then get them telling and showing how to work out their own made up questions and stories with pictures you can find.
*continue practicing writing takeaway sentences. You could write some questions, use the worksheet below or say aloud questions for your child to write down.

Writing

Here are some writing ideas and sentence starters to choose from for this week. Aim to write one story each day.
Get your child to choose one (or more) their favourite stories, take a photo and send it to Mrs Coe, I will reply to them :)
*My house...
*Have you ever...?
*Here is...
*Write about something that makes you HAPPY
*Go outside a sit/lie still for 1 minute. Write about the things you can HEAR. I can hear…
*Watch A House for a Hermit Crab by Eric Carle and write about the Hermit's house.
*Write about a horse or hippo. Look at a picture online and write about what they look like.
You could also base writing off something you have read, done or seen that day or during the week. Your child could also write about what they are going to share for news.

Oral Language / News

*find something at home beginning with the letter Hh. Send a short video sharing your news (by Thursday) with the class and Mrs Coe will post them on the blog on Friday.
This week - try to remember to greet the class (Good morning or afternoon Room 1), and tell us about what you are sharing, mum or dad might even ask a question for you to answer to give us some more information.

Developmental

*Colour, Cut, Paste - Horse
*Art - draw a self-portrait but get creative with the HAIR - find something different to collage your hair on, leaves, spaghetti/pasta, string/wool. Send a photo to Mrs Coe.
*In class we were going to make single serve ANZAC biscuits, allowing the children to measure and make their own biscuit. I've included the recipe, but you may also choose to make a whole batch for you and your family!
*Build a HUT inside or outside
*Play HIDE and seek
*Make a collage using newspapers, magazine, old cards etc of pictures starting with the letter Hh.
