Devotions

The Beginning (Genesis 1:9-10)
Big Question - Who made the World?
This Week - God speaks, he made the land and sea.
MV - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
Songs: In the Beginning (from last week)
Play Activity Ideas:

1) Islands in the sea - design a simple obstacle course (you could draw 'islands' on the ground with chalk or use cushions or newspaper, mountains/chairs to climb over, bridges etc). See if your child can go through the obstacle course by going on the islands and not falling in the sea!
2) At the beach - make a pretend beach by arranging towels, balls, sunglasses, buckets, etc (near a sandpit if you have one - otherwise find things sand and sea coloured to represent those things). Use this as an imaginative play space.
3) Sandy toes - a sensory activity with wet and dry sand (if you have it), describe what the different sand feels like.
4) Make a snack that reminds them God made the land and sea - this could be blue jelly (sea) with bits of fruit (land) or anything creative you can thing of!
Object Lesson
- (If you made a play space you could do this talking in that area) Play a quick game of Simon says then ask "How do you think God made the land and sea?" When God said something, it happened. Imagine you're at the beach, what can you hear/feel/see? God spoke and told the water to come together in one place…and it did! When that happened there was dry ground. What are the different names for the water, and dry ground? God's word is very powerful. When he speaks or commands something, it happens!!
Beginners Bible Story - focusing on the part of the story where God created the sun, moon and stars.

Maths
Comparisions and Differences

Here are 3 days (Tuesday-Thursday) of Maths activities. Remember you also have hard copy worksheets you can use and to start off with Mad Math Minute and number wiritng pracitce.

1. Comparing length and width

Use a collection of ribbons, string or cut up strips of paper (depending what you have accessible)
*challenge your child to find different ways to sort and order the ribbons/string/paper (could be colours, lengths, widths)
*Talk about how they chose to sort and order the items. Are there other ways you could do it?
*Place 2 ribbons/string/paper pieces next to each other, "which is longer?"
*Ask your child to find one shorter than one you show them.
*Link longer and shorter to tall and short with a follow up worksheet

2. Comparing weight

Below are two activities, depending what you have at home you could do one or both of them.
Bags of Books
*
Use a selection of books from around the house and two bags that you can't see through.
*Put some books in each bag (one heavier than the other). Talk about which one is heavier and which is lighter.
*Get your child to guess which bag has more books inside. Open the bags and check.
*Talk about how the bag with the biggest number of books may not always mean the heaviest. Why? (Size, thickness, number of pages of books).
Balls of Playdough

*Make some playdough, or use some you have at home already. Split the dough into different sized balls.
*Compare two balls of playdough, holding one in each hand talking about which is lighter and which is heavier.
*Continue this with different sized balls.
*Try with eyes closed.

3. Differences in pairs of objects

*Find pairs of objects around the house and ask what is the same and what is different?
*Cut strips of paper. Choosing two at a time talk about the things that are the same and the things that are different.
*Using Numicon shapes select two at a time and ask about the similarities and differences.
*You could follow up with a worksheet looking for the picture with what is different. Get your child to draw in what is missing on each line

Writing

Here are some writing ideas and sentence starters to choose from for this week. Aim to write one story each day.
Get your child to choose one (or more) their favourite stories, take a photo and send it to Mrs Coe, I will reply to them :)

*"On ANZAC day…"
*If you made ANZAC cookies in the weekend, write about how you made them OR what they tasted like.
*Go on an insect hunt in the garden and write about what you found.
*"I like…"
*"I went…"
*"I see…"
*Write about what it would be like to live in an IGLOO. "In my igloo…"
You could also base writing off something you have read, done or seen that day or during the week. Your child could also write about what they are going to share for news.

Oral Language / News

*find something at home beginning with the letter Ii. Send a short video sharing your news (by Thursday) with the class and Mrs Coe will post them on the blog on Friday.
Try to remember to greet the class (Good morning or afternoon room 1), and tell us about what you are sharing, mum or dad might even ask a question for you to answer to give us some more information.

Developmental

*Colour, Cut, Paste - penguin to stick in front of the igloo
*Freeze some plastic toys in a block of ICE, watch them melt in the sun or try different ways to get them out.
