Picture

Morena Room 1! I am hoping this picture soon becomes our reality.
I miss all your faces and look forward to seeing everyone once we are a bit more back to normal.
At the moment all we we know that we will be at Level 3 until at least Monday, and will be receiving an update then on any changes. Jacinda's announcement on Thursday stated that even once the decision is made to move to Level 2 (whenever that happens) that schools would start back at the beginning of the following week. With that in mind, at this stage I have provided another week of learning activities for you.

Devotions

The Beginning (Genesis 1:20-25)
Big Question - Who made the World?
This Week - Amazing Animals
MV - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
Song: In the Beginning
Lesson: Read Genesis 1:20-25 together, talking about the different animals that it said God made. Talk about different animals and where they live.
Play Activities: 1) Match to the Patch - using toy animals you have at home put them in front of you, take turns describing where that animal would live and see if the other person/people can guess which animal you choose. Continue until all of the animals have had their homes described. 2) Create some Critters - use craft materials, boxes etc you have around the house and make an animal that lives in the sea, land or sky. 3) Animal Noises - Take turns making the sound of animals, the other person has to guess whether that animals is from the land, sea or sky.

Maths

1. Sorting and Matching Similarities in Shapes

- Print a copy of the attribute shapes below if you can and cut them out.
- If you don't have a printer - draw 4 of each shape (triangle, circle, square) - some big and some small (try to keep the big to a similar size and small to a similar size). Colour in the shapes using 3 different colours.

- Ask your child to sort the shapes into size groups.
- Then into groups of their shapes.
- Play a matching game - share out all of the shapes between you. Start by putting down 1 shape then tell your child they need to put down one of their shapes next to it that has something that matches (size, colour or shape) explaining what matches. Continue to take turns with this until you have used all of the shapes (or as many of the shapes that you can). Then go back over the line together and say what matches between each pair.

2. Naming and Labelling Numbers 1-20

*Ask your child to draw a growing pattern of the numbers 1-20 (you could first do this with Numicon shapes 1-10) then use them to help draw the rest. These can be dots or squares etc.
*Ask them to point and count to each number.
*Then point to different numbers on the line and ask what number it is.
*In order, write the numbers 1-20 (or get your child to do it!!) then cut these out as separate numbers.
*Hand one number to your child at a time and get them to match it with the correct picture they've drawn. Continue until they have labelled all the numbers.

3. Continuing Addition

*continuing on from last week's learning, recap the words and symbols introduced and used when telling adding sentences - plus, more, add, and, +
*ask your child to make up new adding stories and writing down the adding sentences, saying the sentence as or after it's been written down.

4. An Addition Game

*this is a game called 'turn is over' which helps children to learn adding facts.
*your child will need the numbers 2-10 (written on squares of paper) face up, in order in a 3x3 grid in front of them.
*ask your child to choose two Numicon shapes, put them together and say the adding sentence (eg, 2+5=7) they then turn over the card showing the answer and put the Numicon shapes back in the pile.
*The aim is to turn over all of the numbers in their grid. So continue with different shapes, if they choose two numbers that also add to a number already turned over they don't get to turn a new number over (eg 4+3=7 but 7 is already turned over) so they try again.
*You could but don't have to get your child to write the number sentences as they go.

Spelling

Picture
Get your child to practice a variety of their spelling words from throughout the year. Seeing what they remember in fun and interactive ways - in sand or salt, with chalk, with water and a paint brush on concrete, write as rainbow words etc. Spend extra time practicing the words they can't remember.

Reading

Continue reading the readers sent home with your child and learning their sight words with a variety of interactive and play-based activities. Below are more books on Epic! that fit in with this week's letter theme.

Here are some writing ideas and sentence starters to choose from for the next day or so...

*Write about a KITTEN, KOALA or KANGAROO
*Write about a KITE flying in the wind
*"If I were the KING…"
You could also base writing off something you have read, done or seen that day or during the week or weekend.

Oral Language / News

*find something at home beginning with the letter Kk. Send a short video sharing your news (by Thursday) with the class and Mrs Coe will post them on the blog on Friday.
Remember to greet the class (Good morning or afternoon room 1), and tell us about what you are sharing, mum or dad might even ask a question for you to answer to give us some more information.
