Production Update and Rehearsal Expectations
25 Jul 2026

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I wanted to provide you with an update on our production rehearsals this week, as well as outline our expectations moving forward.

This week, we have successfully worked through the entire play from beginning to end, which is a significant milestone. However, I must also be honest that I have been very disappointed with the lack of work ethic, attitude and behaviour from many of the students during rehearsals.

At this stage, with only four weeks until our performances, most of the cast should be confident with their lines, songs and cues. Unfortunately, many students are still unprepared in these areas, which is extremely frustrating and significantly slows down our rehearsals. We have spent many hours working through scenes and learning songs, and students have been given significant time and support to learn their lines. There is now an expectation that students take responsibility for their own preparation.

The expectation for every rehearsal is that students:

  • Arrive prepared and ready to work.
  • Have practised their lines and songs at home.
  • Know their cues and understand what they need to do in each scene.
  • Listen carefully and follow instructions.
  • Show a positive attitude and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Give 100% effort for the entire rehearsal.
  • With only four weeks until the performance, every rehearsal is incredibly important. It is imperative that students attend ALL scheduled rehearsals and that families manage other commitments and schedules around production where possible. We cannot afford for students to regularly miss rehearsals at this crucial stage.

Next Week's Rehearsals

Monday 6:00 - 8:00pm: Act 2, Scenes 1 - 5  (ALL CAST)

Thursday 3:30 - 6:00pm : Act 2, Scenes 6 - 8  (ALL CAST)

We will be focusing on tightening scenes, improving transitions, rehearsing with props and costumes, and continuing to develop the production as a whole. Students need to come prepared and ready to work hard.

Costume Check – Thursday

We will be doing a full costume check on Thursday. Most costumes are now complete or almost complete, so if your child has any costume items that they are providing from home and you have not already sent these in, please ensure they bring them to school on Thursday. All costume items will be left at school so that we have everything together and ready for our upcoming rehearsals and performances.

If there are any sewers available on Thursday who could help with a few minor costume alterations, we would greatly appreciate your help. Please let me know if you are available.

Our Monday evening working bee will also continue. A huge thank you to all those who regularly arrive to help. Your support has made the biggest difference to our production, and we are incredibly grateful for the time, skills and energy you have given to help bring this production together.

Christmas Trees Needed!

We are still looking for Christmas trees for our stage set. So far, we have only had two trees delivered, and we need approximately 20 trees in total.

If you have already offered your tree, or if you are willing to lend us a Christmas tree for the production, please drop it off to Room 22 at school next week. Trees can be artificial or real, and we are looking for a range of sizes.

Please also ensure that Google Classroom is checked regularly. Important production updates, rehearsal information and resources will be posted there, and students are responsible for keeping up to date with this information.

I appreciate the incredible support that many parents and families have given to this production so far. We have a very talented cast, and I know what an amazing production we are capable of creating. However, we are now at the point where every student needs to take responsibility for their role and commit fully to the production. I am asking for your support in reinforcing these expectations at home and encouraging your child to use their time outside of rehearsals to practise their lines, songs and cues.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for everything you are doing behind the scenes to help us bring this production to the stage. We are very grateful for our wonderful production community!

Kind regards,
Delia Fox
