Dear Cast Members and Families,
The excitement is really building as we draw closer to our production of Narnia, the Musical. With only a few weeks to go until performance time, we have two important holiday rehearsal days planned to help us bring this wonderful show together.
Holiday Rehearsal Dates
Wednesday 15 July – 10:00 am–3:00 pm
Thursday 16 July – 10:00 am–3:00 pm
Venue: Ashburton Christian School
See a link to the Holiday Rehearsal Schedule here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1evu0UwCI3m3lbYAVKrAgneiG-_PriMSYz2ffZsMrOUU/edit?gid=0#gid=0
These rehearsals are incredibly important as we have a lot to accomplish. Students will be engaged in activities throughout the day. When they are not rehearsing scenes, songs, or dances, they will be helping with props, painting, set preparation, and other production jobs. It will truly be an "all hands on deck" effort!
Thursday will be especially exciting, as we will be running through the entire show with the stage crew and our larger set pieces. This will be our first opportunity to see many elements of the production coming together.
Costumes
I will be hiring some costumes during the holidays before the rehearsals and would like to do a costume fit on Wednesday 15th, to make sure that everything fits and works well on stage. If your child is providing any of their costume items from home, please ensure they bring these along on Wednesday, clearly named, so that we can incorporate them into our costume fittings. Please note these costumes will be stored at school until the production. We also have some amazing ladies sewing costumes for us and these will be fitted as and when they are completed.
What Students Need to Bring
Please ensure students bring:
- A packed lunch
- Plenty of water
- Additional snacks and refreshments for morning and afternoon breaks
- Comfortable clothing and suitable footwear
- Any costume items they are providing from home (for Wednesday's costume fitting)
- A card game, ball, or another simple activity to enjoy during break times
There will be regular breaks throughout the day, including a longer lunch break.
Attendance Expectations
Because we have so much to cover, it is absolutely essential that all cast members attend both rehearsal days. Every scene, dance, and technical element relies on students being present.
If your family has already made prior arrangements or if your child becomes unwell, please let me know as soon as possible.
Safety and Procedures
These rehearsals are considered an extension of the school programme, and therefore all Ashburton Christian School values, expectations, and policies remain in effect.
To ensure everyone remains safe and focused:
- Students will need to be signed in upon arrival and signed out at the end of each day.
- Students are expected to arrive on time and prepared for the rehearsals.
- Students will not be permitted to leave the school grounds during rehearsal hours.
- All mobile phones will be handed to the Production Manager at the beginning of the day for safekeeping. If students need to contact parents or check messages, they will be able to do so under staff supervision before returning their phones.
Communication
All communication regarding behaviour and student expectations will come from the Production Manager Staff. These procedures help us maintain student safety and make the most of our rehearsal time together.
Most importantly, these two days are going to be a lot of fun! There is something special about spending extended time together as a cast—working hard, encouraging one another, and watching the production come to life. We are incredibly proud of the commitment and enthusiasm our students have shown so far, and we can't wait to see what we can achieve together during these rehearsals.
Thank you, parents and caregivers, for your ongoing support. We truly couldn't do this without you.
Let's make these two days productive, memorable, and full of joy as we continue our journey to Narnia!
Kind regards
Delia Fox

Last week for the term!
As we head into another exciting week of rehearsals, the countdown to our Narnia production is well and truly on! This week, we will continue polishing our songs, dances, and scenes as everything starts coming together on stage.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the production so far—whether by helping with props and costumes, assisting at rehearsals, or encouraging our cast and crew behind the scenes. Your generosity and enthusiasm have made a tremendous difference and have helped create a truly special experience for our students.
Next week:
See the updated rehearsal schedule here: Rehearsal Schedule
Please note a slight change to the rehearsal schedule for Monday 29th June (6:00–8:00 pm).
Our dance choreographers will be joining us to revise all of the production dances. Instead of singing separately with Mrs Wigram, students will be practising both their singing and dancing together with live piano accompaniment.
As a result, not all cast members will be required for the full rehearsal, so please check the updated schedule carefully to see when your child is needed. Thank you.
Things to note:
HOLIDAY REHEARSALS:
To continue building on all the work done this term, we will be holding two important holiday rehearsals:
Wednesday 15th July 10:00 - 3:00pm
Thursday 16th July 10:00 - 3:00pm
At school
These rehearsals are a valuable opportunity to cement the learning that has taken place so far and to work through the production as a whole. They will also give us the time needed to focus on some of our larger scenes and continue refining performances as we move closer to show time. Detailed information will be sent by the end of the term outlining everything you need to know.
The enthusiasm, dedication, and teamwork shown by our students have been fantastic, and we are excited to see the production continuing to take shape. Thank you again for your ongoing support and flexibility. These holiday rehearsals will make a significant difference as we work towards delivering a memorable performance for our school community.
We welcome any parent volunteers who are available to help with finalising the props, costumes and support where needed. If you are able to assist, please contact Mrs Fox directly at d.fox@acs.school.nz
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Please kindly let us know if your child has any prior commitments and are not able to attend either of those rehearsal days.
PROPS NEEDED:
As we continue preparing for our production, we are looking to borrow artificial Christmas trees to help create the magical winter setting on stage. We would love to borrow a variety of sizes, ranging from 5 feet to 9 feet tall.
Any trees loaned to us will be carefully looked after and clearly labelled so they can be returned to their owners after the production.
To create the snowy effect, we may need to use fake snow spray on some of the trees. If you are happy for your tree to have this applied, please let me know. If you would prefer not to use snow spray, we would still be very grateful to borrow your tree and will use an alternative method to achieve the same effect.
If you are able to help, please contact me with the size of the tree you have available.
We are also needing to borrow a pouf / small ottoman - preferable green/brown/red/golden colours. If you have something you think might be suitable, please be in touch. Thank you.
How You Can Support at Home:
Please continue supporting your child with learning their lines at home. All the backing tracks have been uploaded to Google Classroom, so students have access to all the songs and dances they are learning. Students will be script free from the holidays on to ensure that we get the best practise out of our rehearsal times. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Ngā mihi,
