Curriculum and School Vision
Our vision gives the purpose and direction to much of what we teach. It is a Bible based vision worked out through the skill and faith of the teachers in authentic contexts. Each of the areas described below is built on the vision and Christian convictions of staff. Our Biblical vision is the foundation, manner and goal of our learning. Other key aspects of our Year 1-6 curriculum include:
- Regular Dance, Music, Visual Arts and Physical Education. These activities have strong links to brain development and, thus support learning in all other areas. They are also important ways to express ourselves and provide enjoyment and fitness.
- We have a strong Mathematics program built around the Numicon resource. It is a cyclic program; themes are revisited frequently at increasing levels of complexity. Number thinking is integrated into all the strands. We include rote learning and algorithms along with Mathematical thinking and problem solving.
- We aim to build integrated literacy experiences, using grouping for skill development. Each class regularly attends the local library.
- Itinerant teachers offer lessons during class time in a range of instruments including singing.
